imitone Beta 0.7.0

imitone beta 0.7.0

January 31, 2015

This update focuses on improvements to analysis and MIDI generation.

Windows:  Download
Mac OS X:  Download

Change Log:

Changes:

Pitch tracking is significantly improved, especially for deeper timbres.
The UI was redesigned with a new look for the keyboard and shut-off notes.
Reduced CPU usage somewhat.
Control-clicking the pitch bend button now activates long-range pitch bend.
The receiving synthesizer must support pitch bend range configuration!
Engaging pitch-bend mode now turns off scale snapping.
Implemented manual .ini file setting for pitch detection range.
This can be used to save CPU or pick up pitches outside the standard range.
Use this format, with MIDI note values between 0-127:
        set imitone.note_bottom 36
        set imitone.note_top    84
Implemented manual .ini file setting for buffer size.
This can be used to lower imitone's I/O latency.
Use this format, where the value is a sample count:
        set imitone.buffer_size 64
imitone now requests a 128-sample buffer on Mac, and with Kernel / ASIO modes on Windows.
(All other modes use 256, except multimedia mode which is 512.)
Tweaks to MIDI sequencing:
    - Pitch glide now utilizes the legato pedal controller.
    - imitone always switches the MIDI receiver to mono mode.
    - Pitch bend and vibrato controllers are no longer reset when a note ends.
    - Controllers are now truly inactive when shut off.
(formerly they would send "default" values with each note)
    - It is now possible to configure large pitch-bend ranges.
The license key entry interface now supports copy-paste.
Consolidated MIDI device selection to one dialog box.
Hid some extraneous audio modes on Windows -- the set offered varies by OS version.
MIDI channels now light up in device configuration when transmitting notes.
Up to 32 audio input channels may now be recognized and displayed in the interface.
Drop-down menus now prefer to drop DOWN instead of pop up.

Fixes:

Deactivated a scripting module that caused start-up to fail on certain (very old) computers.
Fixed a problem that could cause articulation values to "stick" after they were shut off.
Fixed a display bug when re-opening imitone with a MIDI output channel other than 1.
Various other small fixes.

Re: imitone Beta 0.7.0

I cant get it to work. I have tried Lmms, Nano Studio and FL. I feel so frustrated.
Only my voice is heard. Nano Studio dont find the app and Lmms crashes all the time and cant find the app.
I have tried to do what you been saying here but nothing works.
Will you help me with the refund?

Hello, skyvaller --

If I had to take a guess, you didn't choose to install the Virtual MIDI Driver when installing imitone, or haven't opened imitone before opening the other music programs.  (imitone is a stand-alone, not a plugin!)

If you want a refund, send me an E-mail at support@imitone.com.

Re: imitone Beta 0.7.0

I just picked this up today and have been playing around with it.  I'm only seeing issues with pitch detection - I've set the key and also turned on the tone stabilizer, but I still get unwanted glissandos.  I'll have to play around some more.  All in all, on Mac, I used it as input to EWQL Symphonic Orchestra standalone session without issue.  I have to play some with both versions a little more over the next few weeks.  Overall, good stuff, and hoping more to come!

Re: imitone Beta 0.7.0

I'll be putting out an update in a week or two that should address ghost notes to some extent and will add a mode that eliminates glissando.  In the update after that, I'll be overhauling the tone stabilizer (which has a lot of problems).  That, and the later "automatic tracking" feature, should be very helpful.  So keep your eyes peeled!

Re: imitone Beta 0.7.0

Over six months now?!  Yeesh, I'm waaaay behind schedule.  I've been doing heavy research and development over the last few months, resulting in huge improvements to the pitch tracking...  It just took a ton of time.  I've also been working on a patent application, which has been far more time-consuming than I could have imagined.

Starting later this week, I'll be putting time into the app and working to get a solid new version out.  There are a few nice new features I want to cram in, so it'll take a little time to put together, but I think I'll finally be getting it done within another couple of weeks.

i'm struggling with all these issues, so looking forward to that update...  have my hopes up for a useful tool eventually!  ;)

Re: imitone Beta 0.7.0

I bought this program for a long time, but unfortunately could not use it, because the MIDI file that the result was still very far from phrases that I sang ...
I really hope to upgrade!

Re: imitone Beta 0.7.0

I wish I could explain just how far the theory behind the tech has come.  I now have a complete model for how and why my system works, and by applying that I have managed to make something that's a strong step forward from previous versions.  I should be done with most of my busy-work after today, and able to finally get back to development on the app.

Re: imitone Beta 0.7.0

Hi I have this latest edition and still have noticeable latency. I have the latest version of yosemite and logic pro x. It seems that there is less latency with my macbook's built in mic than with my m-audio mic interface and a dynamic mic. Any suggestions in terms of configuration? Anyone?

Re: imitone Beta 0.7.0

One of the biggest problem of our time : patience. We (include me) are too used to have things easily and so fastly frustrated when we don't have what we want.
I'm also looking forward to testing imitone 0.8 but for me imitone 0.7.0 is already powerful, from now the best of all pitch to midi software. With my korg keyboard i have almost no latency and it's really fun even for fast songs. Yes it's not perfect sometimes there are ghost notes but let's face it, it's a really hard challenge to reach the perfection here.
Have faith in Evan and hopes that imitone will become a word famous software !

Re: imitone Beta 0.7.0

YES and NO.

Well the whistler do not enjoy at all! REALLY

Very good for voice but whistle is a big fail.

Pitch bend range is not working, looks like broken so not usable in the present state, it doesn't recognise hi pitch whistling AT ALL. forcing to use the full range but give stutter notes.

I'm staying with v 0.61a and 0.7 for whistling.
I'll use 0.8 for voice, much better.

Overall full range is ok but  it is cutting notes to short ones many too often now with hi notes [AGAIN!!!].
Detecting lo pitch for hi voice rendering an octave lower than it should do.

Not complaining, just reporting.

the problem with whistle on 0.7 is now becoming even worst on 0.8. unfortunately.

putting mic on the throat is worst now, like volume is too weak

Re: imitone Beta 0.7.0

I'll try again 0.61a, i thought 0.7 better for whistling, thanks Yragael.
Already looking forward the next update lol, it's so cool to control any instruments from voice !
There's still false notes sometimes (much better than 0.7 though) and not good when singing fastly.
Is there a software that can transform notes to chord ? I'd like to control styles of my arranger keyboard.
