You may have been sent to this page automatically by our built-in crash reporter.  We hope this information can help you fix the problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td><strong>Affected Users<\/strong><\/td><td>Mostly Windows users. Only happens with certain audio hardware or drivers, such as older Focusrite Scarlett interfaces.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Symptoms<\/strong><\/td><td>imitone crashes or freezes when starting up or choosing an audio device.  The message mentions PortAudio or symbols beginning with &#8220;Pa_&#8221;.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Cause<\/strong><\/td><td>Typically caused by bugs or abnormalities in one of your computer&#8217;s audio drivers.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Status<\/strong><\/td><td>imitone can often avoid or recover from this issue by switching to another audio system on Windows.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Instructions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Make sure you are running&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/imitone.com\/beta\">the latest version of imitone<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you see an error report pop up, choose &#8220;<strong>Send to imitone HQ<\/strong>&#8221; to let us know about it. You only need to do this once.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Include your E-mail address if you would like to receive technical support.  We can usually determine which device caused a crash by looking at your report.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Run imitone a second time<\/strong>.  imitone may block buggy audio drivers, allowing it to start up.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the problem continues, <strong>try updating the drivers<\/strong> for any audio devices connected to your computer, or try disconnecting audio devices you do not use. This will often make your PC&#8217;s audio systems safe to use again.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If updating your drivers doesn&#8217;t work, see the <strong>Windows Installer Workaround<\/strong> below.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>imitone may block an entire category of audio drivers in response to a crash.  This may result, for example, in all ASIO drivers being blocked.  After updating your drivers, you can remove the block by following these steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open imitone.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on imitone&#8217;s window and press control-R (or command-R on Mac).  A folder will appear.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Find the file called <strong>app_traumas<\/strong> in the folder and delete it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Close imitone and open it again.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Windows Installer Workaround<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If nothing else is working, you can use imitone&#8217; installer to choose which types of audio drivers are enabled or disabled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"499\" height=\"388\" src=\"https:\/\/imitone.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/image.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-152\" srcset=\"https:\/\/imitone.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/image.png 499w, https:\/\/imitone.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/image-300x233.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 499px) 100vw, 499px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>At the &#8220;Choose Components&#8221; stage of the installer, click the [+] button labeled &#8220;Fixes &amp; Tweaks&#8221;.<br>Try one of the &#8220;Audio&#8221; options other than &#8220;Stock&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"499\" height=\"388\" src=\"https:\/\/imitone.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/image-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-153\" srcset=\"https:\/\/imitone.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/image-1.png 499w, https:\/\/imitone.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/image-1-300x233.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 499px) 100vw, 499px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Then finish installing imitone and run it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Which audio tweak should I choose?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Stock<\/strong>, the default option, supports all the most common methods.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Modern<\/strong>&nbsp;removes some of the less-common options from Stock.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Legacy<\/strong>, the old-fashioned option, is <strong>most likely to solve the problem<\/strong>, but also the most limiting.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>ASIO Only<\/strong>&nbsp;only supports ASIO. Special drivers such as&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.asio4all.org\/\">ASIO4ALL<\/a>&nbsp;will be necessary to use imitone.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Advanced Technical Information<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Stock<\/strong>&nbsp;includes support for Windows WASAPI, MME, Kernel Streaming and ASIO. This is the default.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Modern<\/strong>&nbsp;includes support for Windows WASAPI and ASIO.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>ASIO Only<\/strong>&nbsp;includes support for ASIO only.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Legacy<\/strong>&nbsp;includes support for Windows MME, DirectSound and Kernel Streaming.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>imitone&#8217;s audio modes are organized into <strong>shared<\/strong> and <strong>exclusive<\/strong> in the app:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>shared<\/strong> uses WASAPI (shared mode) where available and DirectX\/MME otherwise.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>exclusive<\/strong> is a combined list of WDM Kernel Streaming, WASAPI (exclusive mode) and ASIO drivers.  With the Stock install, we show Kernel Streaming drivers rather than WASAPI.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You may be able to make more audio drivers visible by setting the flag &#8220;imitone.filter_audio_modes&#8221; to 0 in the ini files in imitone&#8217;s install folder.<br>Note that the ASIO-enabled DLLs provided in imitone&#8217;s installer are customized with additional functionality (ASIO callbacks).
