imitone 0.13.1 — bugfixes & Apple Silicon support

We’ve decided to start posting our change notes on our blog. Previously these were only available here.

March 12, 2024

It has been a while since our last update!  Our plans for this fall were disrupted when I came down with Long COVID in October; it took about five months to recover fully.  I’ve been gradually returning to work since January, with a focus on modernizing our development tools.  The immediate output of this is native support for Apple Silicon — but it will make developing new features and ports (such as plugins for Mac) a much quicker process.

This update doesn’t bring any new features and breaks support for some older systems (representing fewer than 1% of imitone users in the last year).  Under the hood, it’s a total code refresh.  This might fix some bugs not listed below, because we’ve updated to the latest versions of various code libraries used in imitone.

Changes:

  • Universal Mac OS build with Apple Silicon support.
  • Mac OS 10.12 is no longer supported.
  • Windows XP is no longer supported.
  • 32-bit Windows is no longer supported.

Fixes:

  • Sound can now be played to devices with more than two channels.
  • Note, imitone only plays sound on channels 1 and 2.
  • Fixed some issues when restarting audio devices.
  • Fixed an issue when number of ASIO channels is changed.
  • It’s still necessary to refresh if channels are increased.
