0.9.0d rising memory usage.

Hello,

I was testing imitone a bit watching for CPU usage, seems it is quite better that 0.8 in that aspect, nice.

But in Process Explorer (oh yeah, I'm on Windows 10 64bit) I'm also seeing a constantly rising memory usage. Slow but steady.

Re: 0.9.0d rising memory usage.

Hello —

I'll look into this.  imitone uses so little memory that tracking down leaks has tended to be a lower priority — but not the sort of thing I should let slip by.  Let me know if you see significant (>300MB) memory usage.

Re: 0.9.0d rising memory usage.

This probably explains the crash reports I've seen where the user has been running imitone for 48 hours straight.  :)

But I've used imitone for more than 48 hours straight a few times without any crash. Maybe because my system has 16 GB RAM?

The best protection against a slow leak is a big bucket.  Modern computers have ludicrous amounts of memory and imitone uses fairly little (even with this defect).

In any case I'll make a point of fixing this in our next update.  We're in R&D mode right now so that might be a little while yet unless this problem starts to look like a more urgent one.

Glad to know that the team is working on it. I too have sufficient RAM so no rush from my end.

Is the update out? I want to avoid upgrading my system as long as I can.

Re: 0.9.0d rising memory usage.

Our next update to imitone will resolve this problem.  We've been working toward a larger update, though, so it may be a while yet.  I will consider making a small patch if this is a serious issue for someone.

It usually takes a few hours for this to become a problem.  Disabling imitone's audio input when you aren't using it may slow the increase in memory footprint.  You can also reset imitone's memory usage by closing and re-opening the app.  After doing this, you can usually restore the connection by poking your DAW's MIDI input setting.

Re: 0.9.0d rising memory usage.

We've addressed the cause of the crash in our development version, and the fix will be forthcoming in our next update.

The update itself is taking a while because I'm focusing my efforts on a total re-design of imitone's tech to bring it up to the level of quality I've always envisioned.  This will have a few stages (pitch recognition, musical transcription and interface design).  After I get the new pitch recognition tech to an acceptable state, I will push out a new version before moving onto the other two items.

If you are using Windows 10 then the memory usage will surely increase because Windows 10 require higher memory than other windows. It is a common problem that everyone face.
